Creative Studio, accessed via the Edge panel, turns your shots into custom stickers or invitations so you can keep the weekend vibes going a little longer.

Nintendo is closing out the Switch 1 era in style.

For the past couple of weeks, I've been leisurely digging my way through Rhythm Heaven Groove. At the time of publication, it's the only announced upcoming first-party game for the original Nintendo Switch console, which could potentially give it a unique place in history. To be clear, I'm fairly confident that Nintendo will release at least a couple more games for the OG Switch before too long, but for now, Rhythm Heaven is all that's left.

And what a way for the Switch to go out, if this is indeed its swan song. The latest entry in one of Nintendo's most eclectic franchises is also one of the most eminently approachable games for the platform. All you need is a basic sense of rhythm and the ability to hit one, maybe two buttons now and then. Between that, its low $40 price, and its sublime sense of style, anyone who has yet to pick up a Switch 2 really ought to give Rhythm Heaven Groove a shot.

If you've never played a Rhythm Heaven game (and I suspect there's a good chance that's true), they're made up of dozens of little unique musical minigames that each take only a couple of minutes to complete. Each one has its own premise, visual style, and music, but at the end of the day, you're doing the same thing in all of them: trying to adhere to a beat and press one or two buttons when the rhythm calls for it.

A big part of what makes Rhythm Heaven work, both in Groove and in the games before it, is that each minigame has an attractive, somewhat low-fi 2D visual style to it. Characters and backgrounds are all eminently endearing to the eye, and rather charmingly, no part of it looks like a mega-budget GTA VI-style production. Of course, the music is fantastic, too, with beats that are simple enough for even the non-musicians among us to keep up with, and melodies that'll stick in your head for at least a few minutes after you're done.

If you want to get a quick idea of what Rhythm Heaven's whole vibe is, I will direct you towards Monkey Watch, a minigame from Rhythm Heaven Fever for Wii. I promise the series has not changed much since then, to its benefit.

I also dig the structure here. Minigames are divided into groups of four, and once you've completed all four in a group, you're treated to a playable remix level that mashes all of them together into one song. These are generally the highlight of the experience, as it's fun to see (and hear) how four different musical minigames can come together into something that actually feels coherent.

Groove, of course, has a little more going for it than just a series of single-player minigames. One of the big side modes here is Beatspell, a rhythm-based RPG where you mash out little musical combos to cast spells in fights against monsters, complete with experience points and leveling up. I need to spend more time with this to make a proper judgment, but at the very least, this is a really cool thing to include alongside the main event.

Similarly, the multiplayer offerings here should be a good time for living room hangout sessions. I am particularly partial to the four-player game where each person tries to grab a slice of cake at just the right moment, and whoever comes closest to nailing the timing wins. It's a fun game, but I mostly love it because each character has a stupid color-coded pompadour haircut that grows longer each time they win a round. That's the kind of spirit that Rhythm Heaven has always had.

It also represents what made the Switch era so great

You should play Rhythm Heaven Groove because it's charming, cool, and, again, only $40. But beyond its quality as a game, I really like what it represents about the Switch era for Nintendo.

Namely, the past nine years have been great for exposing Nintendo fans to franchises beyond the safe confines of Mario and Zelda. The Switch era made me a fan of Fire Emblem, Xenoblade Chronicles, Luigi's Mansion, Tomodachi Life, and now Rhythm Heaven, and those are just the ones I can remember off the top of my head right now. Heck, even Metroid got revived in both 2D and Prime form.

Yes, a handful of important (or important-to-me) series missed out on the OG Switch, with F-Zero probably topping that list. But for the most part, if you're the kind of person who maybe didn't spend as much time playing the DS or 3DS as they should have (subtweeting myself here), the Switch has been a great excuse to learn about a bunch of different, cool games that used to live primarily on handheld platforms.

Given that Rhythm Heaven fits that description perfectly, maybe it is the best way to close out the Switch era. For now, anyway.

Daters are a bit fickle with their feelings on AI, with some saying companion AI is a dealbreaker but still using it to conjure up messages to a potential date. But a new survey from the dating app Hily suggests that it's sexy to be a Luddite.

Sixty percent of Gen Z and 54 percent of millennials would find someone extremely attractive if they admitted to never using AI to make personal decisions, according to a Hily survey of 3,500 American Gen Z and millennial daters.

Meanwhile, 64 percent of Gen Z and 56 percent of millennial daters wouldn't date someone who does. Even more (75 percent of Gen Z and 68 percent of millennials) would be immediately turned off if a date used AI to decide whether they should go on a second date.

Among Gen Zers who wouldn't date someone who regularly used AI to make decisions, the top three dealbreakers are using AI to analyze a relationship conflict (75 percent), processing emotions like a therapist (69 percent), and seeking career advice (56 percent).

Asking AI about private matters is also a red flag, this survey suggests. Sixty-two percent of Gen Z and 53 percent of millennial daters in the U.S. wouldn't date someone who asks AI whether something in their sex life is healthy. The numbers jump up slightly (66 percent of Gen Z and 54 percent of millennials) when it comes to being uncomfortable if a date discusses their sex life with AI.

If you look at the full survey responses, you'll see that respondents were made to respond on a gradient of "completely agree" to "completely disagree" on sentences like, "I wouldn't feel comfortable if someone I was dating discussed our sex life with AI."

So it's not as if all the respondents came to these conclusions totally on their own, but the results are still telling. As people, including singles, continue to adopt AI, there's a growing contingent opposed to its use — so much so that it's a red flag.

OpenClaw, the AI agent formerly known as Moltbot, formerly known as Clawdbot, is coming to a smartphone near you.

On Tuesday, the company announced in a post on X that its AI agents are now available on iOS and Android.

OpenClaw is essentially an AI personal assistant. Created by developer Peter Steinberger (who later joined OpenAI), it runs locally on your device and completes tasks — like checking emails and flagging high priority ones — on your behalf. The tool went viral earlier this year due to stories about Moltbook, a supposed social media platform for AI agents. Unsurprisingly, though, there were risks to letting an AI personal assistant loose on your device, and a couple of months back a critical security flaw in OpenClaw was discovered.

All of which is to say, you may want to do your research before you rush to install OpenClaw on your smartphone.

Netflix has announced a new reality competition show based on the beloved film Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory, as well as the novel it's based on. The company is also using AI to recreate the voice of deceased actor Gene Wilder, who played Willy Wonka in the 1971 movie.

And people are mad.

Wonka's The Golden Ticket (no, that isn't a typo) will feature 12 pairs competing in a series of Wonka-themed challenges and "temptations," which are designed to push the contestants "physically, mentally, and morally." Judging from the trailer, the duos won't be lucky golden ticket-wielding children accompanied by semi-responsible adults as in Roald Dahl's 1964 story. Instead, adult ticketholders with equally adult companions will be entering Wonka's candy emporium, which has slightly more sinister vibes than its inspiration.

Interestingly, Netflix states that only one contestant will win Wonka's The Golden Ticket's "life-changing prize," which raises questions as to how the ticket winners' plus-ones factor in. Considering that Netflix describes the series as a "high-stakes social experiment," it seems possible that betrayal could be on the cards.

The staff of Netflix's fantastical chocolate factory will include an Oompa Loompa who appeared in Mel Stuart's classic film: English actor Rusty Goffe. However, the Netflix series will also feature the AI-generated voice of Gene Wilder, who played Willy Wonka. Wilder died in 2016 at 83 due to complications from Alzheimer's disease.

Netflix worked with AI company ElevenLabs to digitally recreate Wilder's voice for Wonka's The Golden Ticket, which can be heard in the series' teaser trailer:

The project, according to Netflix, has the blessing of Wilder's estate, with Wilder's wife Karen stating that Wonka's The Golden Ticket "celebrates the warmth and imagination that he brought to the role." Even so, using AI to digitally resurrect deceased actors hasn't been well-received in the past, regardless of whether their family or estate agrees.

Earlier this year, upcoming film As Deep as the Grave made headlines for using a completely AI-generated deepfake of deceased actor Val Kilmer in a prominent role. Kilmer died from pneumonia at 65 in April last year. Though his children consented to the film's use of Kilmer's likeness, reactions online were overwhelmingly negative, some calling it "disgusting and disrespectful."

Alien: Romulus also faced backlash in 2024 for using generative AI and production effects to bring the late Sir Ian Holm back into the Alien franchise. Mashable's Belen Edwards wrote at the time, "the result lives in the depths of the uncanny valley," noting other films that have brought back late actors: The Flash (Christopher Reeve's Superman) and Rogue One (Peter Cushing's Grand Moff Tarkin).

"No matter what permissions an estate may grant, a late actor cannot consent to having their likeness used in a movie," Edwards wrote. "Doing so is an immediate violation of their personhood. In reviving them for the screen, you're creating a performance in a film they might never have agreed to do, with acting choices they might never have made."

Reactions to Wonka's The Golden Ticket using Wilder's AI-generated vocal likeness have also been scathing, with social media users labelling it "digital necromancy."

Luca Guadagnino’s OpenAI movie Artificial may have been dropped by Amazon MGM Studios, but it has a new home.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Neon has picked up the film, which stars Andrew Garfield as OpenAI CEO Sam Altman. It's set in the company's turbulent 2023, when Altman was fired from OpenAI and rehired days later.

Amazon pulled out of the film's production in June, with the decision reportedly made by Prime Video and Amazon MGM Studios chief Mike Hopkins after $40 million had already been spent on it. According to THR, Neon picked up Artificial after studios including A24, Focus Features, and Netflix passed.
