It hasn't escaped the attention of the late night hosts that Donald Trump's Iran war strategy doesn't seem to be going as planned.
Jon Stewart spent 22 minutes unpacking the president's supposed "4D chess" on the Daily Show, and Stephen Colbert makes similar comments in the Late Show clip above.
"On Thursday Israel and Lebanon agreed to a ceasefire, so on Friday Iran reopened the Strait of Hormuz — and yes, it was already open before we started the war, but I believe the real Strait of Hormuz was the friends we made along the way. I'm sorry, what's that? And I'm being told that we made no friends," Colbert says.
"Trump immediately claimed victory, posting, 'Iran has agreed to never close the Strait of Hormuz again.' And they never did — until the next day, when Iran closed the Strait of Hormuz again."
WhatsApp is rolling out a paid tier for the app, but what do you actually get?
The Meta-owned messaging service is testing WhatsApp Plus, first confirmed by TechCrunch and now detailed on the company's FAQ page. Meta describes Plus as "an optional subscription that gives you access to additional premium features on WhatsApp."
SEE ALSO: Here's why you're about to see more ads on WhatsAppPrices haven't been confirmed by Meta; I asked Meta's own AI within WhatsApp and it said a price hadn't yet been announced. Mashable also reached out to Meta for further information.
So, what are you paying for with WhatsApp Plus? The features include paid-only stickers, ringtones (yes, ringtones), themes, wallpapers, and icons — and if you personalise your theme and icons, only you can see them (the person you're messaging can't). Plus, the ability to pin 20 chats. That seems to be it so far.
Featured Video For You Is U.S. TikTok censoring its users? If you're worried about being paywalled, WhatsApp said the app's current functionality will remain as is for non-paying users. "The WhatsApp you know and rely on remains free — simple, reliable, private messaging and calling," the FAQ page reads. "This subscription does not change your core experience, and we are committed to ensuring that WhatsApp continues to get better for everyone."
Meta's plans to test paid subscription tiers for Facebook, Instagram, and WhatsApp were confirmed in January; the company started testing Instagram Plus in March. The premium tiers simply mean more revenue for Meta. The company ended 2025 with nearly $60 billion in Q4 revenue and exceeding $200 billion for the year. In its 2025 Q4 earnings report, Meta said 3.5 billion people use a Meta app daily, an audience that's about to see a lot more AI-generated advertising in their feeds.
Soundcore's Space 2 are officially available for purchase, following their announcement at Mobile World Congress last month.
The budget headphones retail for $129.99, and are available for purchase at Soundcore's website and Amazon. This is a price increase of $30 over the Space One headphones, which are available for $99.99.
Opens in a new window Credit: Soundcore Soundcore Space 2 $129.99 at AmazonI was able to spend a couple of weeks testing out the Space 2 headphones ahead of their launch — spoiler alert, they're great. If you're just looking for the basics, here's everything you need to know about the new Soundcore Space 2 headphones.
Soundcore Space 2 specsThe Soundcore Space 2 headphones come packed with plenty of features, including:
Battery life: 50 hours with ANC on, 70 hours with ANC off
Quick charge: 5 minutes of charge for four hours of playback
Listening modes: Noise cancellation, normal, transparency
Drivers: Double-layer 40mm diaphragm drivers
Multipoint connection: Yes, up to two devices
Equalizer: Eight-band custom equalizer, with 22 equalizer presets
Spatial audio: Yes
Audio codecs supported: SBC, AAC, and LDAC
Passive playback: Yes
On-ear controls: Noise cancellation button, multifunction button, power/Bluetooth button, and volume controls
Colors: Green, white, black
Soundcore's Space 2 headphones might be more expensive than their first-generation counterparts, but they also come packed with some upgrades.
For starters, you'll get 10 more hours of battery life with ANC, bringing the Space 2 headphones to a grand total of 50 hours of battery life. Soundcore also included a four-stage noise cancellation, which is essentially just a fancy way of saying these headphones are even better at blocking noise, especially at lower frequencies, like an airplane hum. (Yes, this does make them an enticing option for travel).
The design gets a slight upgrade as well, with a more streamlined ear cup fit than the Space One headphones that lends the headphones an overall more premium look. The Space 2 headphones also feature new colorways.
The Soundcore Space one headphones... Credit: Sam Mangino / Mashable Compared to the Space 2 headphones. Credit: Bethany Allard / MashableIn my testing, it was hard to believe the headphones cost just $129.99 — they easily felt more akin to headphones like the Bose QuietComforts, which cost $359. While their performance doesn't quite match up (which makes sense, they're under half the cost), Soundcore certainly provides a worthwhile budget alternative that makes the gap between budget and mid-range headphones feel even smaller.
Donald Trump is well-known for his ghostwritten book The Art of the Deal, and many of his allies are claiming that the U.S president's war with Iran — and his increasingly angry posts on Truth Social — are all part of a game of "4D chess".
Jon Stewart is less sure. In the Daily Show clip above the host breaks down how the conflict has escalated so far, from Trump's threats to Iran's closure of the Strait of Hormuz.
"So that's where we've arrived at with The Art of the Deal," Stewart summarises. "Basically it's a cycle. It's a cycle of demands and threats and premature declarations of victory that allows the negotiator enough wiggle room to at almost any point claim that they've achieved exactly what they set out to do — ultimately achieving a nuclear deal that'll probably be worse than the nuclear deal Trump pulled our country out of with Iran, to start a devastating war that has killed thousands of innocent Iranians, 13 American soldiers, eroded our credibility as the leader of the free world, sabotaged the world economy, and will cost the American taxpayers, who knows, maybe trillions!"

It packs the same A19 chip found in the iPhone 17, dazzles with a crisp 6.1-inch OLED, and delivers Apple Intelligence features that offer genuine upgrades from older models.
In Mashable's review of the iPhone 17e, Stan Schroeder said "The combination of having Apple's latest chip and a decent amount of storage means this phone will be relevant for at least four to five years." That's a really impressive lifespan for an affordable iPhone. And it really is affordable right now thanks to Verizon.
We're used to seeing mobile carriers offer "free deals" on leading handsets, but you're usually forced to sign up for the most expensive plan or trade-in a premium mobile to qualify. That means you can get a new iPhone and a lower monthly service bill — that's a rare win in this market.
To get the full $599 off the iPhone 17e, you'll need to commit for 36 months.

Like it or not, AI is everywhere.
It was only a matter of time before the technology began showing up in the literary world. The novel Shy Girl was picked up by a major publisher last year, only to be canceled after allegations of AI-generated passages.
Now, AI voices are getting into the mix. Libby users are discovering that AI has also infiltrated the service's audiobooks.
As pointed out by user @ems.book.shelff on TikTok, AI audiobooks have arrived on Libby, the app that connects public library card holders with their library's e-book and audiobook collections.
This isn't the first instance of AI and Libby crossing over. On Nov. 20, 2025, Libby posted an article launching its 'Inspire Me' feature, which uses large-language-model generative artificial intelligence to recommend and suggest books to users.
The 'Inspire Me' feature is easy enough to avoid, but an underlying issue on Libby is the presence of audiobooks that are narrated by AI. For dedicated audiobook listeners, losing the human touch of a real person's narration is devastating. So if you want to steer clear of AI, here's how to spot AI audiobooks in Libby.
How to spot AI audiobooks and LibbyAfter sharing the news that AI content is available on Libby, TikToker @ems.book.shelff also shared how to spot it within Libby. Which AI audiobooks are available will vary from library to library, so rather than provide an extensive list of AI audiobooks, you'll need to do some searching.
Total TimeStep 1: Search for AI voices
In the Libby app, go to the search bar and look at two specific terms: Digital Voice and Synthesized Voice. This will display all the titles that feature AI voice narration, which is commonly referred to as either a digital or synthesized voice.
Credit: Samantha Mangino / MashableStep 2: Browse through results
Once you've searched, click into individual book listings. In each book's details, the narrator will be listed. Any books that use AI will have the narrator listed as either a 'synthesized voice' or 'digital voice.' If you're looking to avoid AI, don't borrow these books.

If you like playing daily word games like Wordle, then Hurdle is a great game to add to your routine.
There are five rounds to the game. The first round sees you trying to guess the word, with correct, misplaced, and incorrect letters shown in each guess. If you guess the correct answer, it'll take you to the next hurdle, providing the answer to the last hurdle as your first guess. This can give you several clues or none, depending on the words. For the final hurdle, every correct answer from previous hurdles is shown, with correct and misplaced letters clearly shown.
An important note is that the number of times a letter is highlighted from previous guesses does necessarily indicate the number of times that letter appears in the final hurdle.

As we hit day four of the lunar cycle, the Moon is starting to appear more illuminated. Keep reading to find out what you can spot tonight.
What is today’s Moon phase? As of Tuesday, April 21, the Moon phase is Waxing Crescent. Tonight, 20% of the moon will be lit up, according to NASA's Daily Moon Guide.
If you're looking at the Moon with just your naked eye, you should be able to catch a glimpse of the Mares Crisium and Fecunditatis. If you have either binoculars or a telescope, you'll see these as well as the Endymion Crater.
When is the next Full Moon? The next Full Moon is predicted to take place on May 1, the first of two in May.
What are Moon phases?NASA says that the Moon completes a full orbit around Earth in about 29.5 days, during which it passes through eight stages. Although the same face of the Moon is always turned toward us, the portion illuminated by the Sun shifts as it travels along its path, producing the familiar cycle of full, half, and crescent shapes. These variations are referred to as lunar phases, and there are eight altogether:
New Moon - The Moon is between Earth and the sun, so the side we see is dark (in other words, it's invisible to the eye).
Waxing Crescent - A small sliver of light appears on the right side (Northern Hemisphere).
First Quarter - Half of the Moon is lit on the right side. It looks like a half-Moon.
Waxing Gibbous - More than half is lit up, but it’s not quite full yet.
Full Moon - The whole face of the Moon is illuminated and fully visible.
Waning Gibbous - The Moon starts losing light on the right side. (Northern Hemisphere)
Third Quarter (or Last Quarter) - Another half-Moon, but now the left side is lit.
Waning Crescent - A thin sliver of light remains on the left side before going dark again.
Welcome to your guide to Pips, the latest game in the New York Times catalogue.
Released in August 2025, Pips puts a unique spin on dominoes, creating a fun single-player experience that could become your next daily gaming habit.
Currently, if you're stuck, the game only offers to reveal the entire puzzle, forcing you to move on to the next difficulty level and start over. However, we have you covered! Below are piecemeal answers that will serve as hints so that you can find your way through each difficulty level.
How to play PipsIf you've ever played dominoes, you'll have a passing familiarity with how Pips is played. As we've shared in our previous hints stories for Pips, the tiles, like dominoes, are placed vertically or horizontally and connect with each other. The main difference between a traditional game of dominoes and Pips is the color-coded conditions you have to address. The touching tiles don't necessarily have to match.
SEE ALSO: Wordle today: Answer, hints for April 21, 2026The conditions you have to meet are specific to the color-coded spaces. For example, if it provides a single number, every side of a tile in that space must add up to the number provided. It is possible — and common — for only half a tile to be within a color-coded space.
Here are common examples you'll run into across the difficulty levels:
Number: All the pips in this space must add up to the number.
Equal: Every domino half in this space must be the same number of pips.
Not Equal: Every domino half in this space must have a completely different number of pips.
Less than: Every domino half in this space must add up to less than the number.
Greater than: Every domino half in this space must add up to more than the number.
If an area does not have any color coding, it means there are no conditions on the portions of dominoes within those spaces.

Today's NYT Strands hints are easy if you love an adventure.
Strands, the New York Times' elevated word-search game, requires the player to perform a twist on the classic word search. Words can be made from linked letters — up, down, left, right, or diagonal, but words can also change direction, resulting in quirky shapes and patterns. Every single letter in the grid will be part of an answer. There's always a theme linking every solution, along with the "spangram," a special, word or phrase that sums up that day's theme, and spans the entire grid horizontally or vertically.
SEE ALSO: Mahjong, Sudoku, free crossword, and more: Play games on MashableBy providing an opaque hint and not providing the word list, Strands creates a brain-teasing game that takes a little longer to play than its other games, like Wordle and Connections.

BookCon 2026 returned for the first time in six years, and fans returned in droves, selling out the event fast. We were on the ground at the event, covering panels and chatting with authors and BookTok creators. But just like the attendees, we also hit the exhibition floor to explore all the gadgets on display. With the popularity of e-readers, we expected to see a ton of devices on the floor, but there was a surprising lack thereof, and the enthusiasm focused on physical books.
But we looked at what BookCon attendees had on hand, too, including the tech they used to capture the event and the essentials for navigating the chaos of BookCon. Here are all the bookish tech and products we spotted at BookCon 2026.

Credit: Samantha Mangino / MashableOn the show floor, while Kindle cases were a popular item to score, Kindle devices were noticeably absent. Instead, Rakuten Kobo was the only e-reader making an appearance. We've tested both brands at Mashable and love Kobo's color e-readers, including the Kobo Clara and Kobo Libra, both of which were on display at BookCon. Plus, the Kobo Remote was on display at Rakuten's booth, as the brand is the first to launch its own e-reader remote.

For every single minute, the clock displays a literary quote that features the time. It's perfect for literary enthusiasts — whether that be you or a friend. The brand recently launched a new device for weather forecasts, too. The Author Forecast connects to WiFi to detect your local weather and then reflect it with a literary passage on the device.

We spotted the DJI Osmo camera everywhere, similar to what we experienced at VidCon. Fans were using it to capture the event, so we're expecting to see lots of BookCon vlogs on BookTok soon. Plus, we also saw attendees using the DJI Mic Mini, which could easily be clipped on to wear around the event.

At 9 a.m. on Saturday, when just VIP and the press were admitted to the exhibition floor, things were already steamy, and people had broken out their handheld fans. While we didn't spot Shark's new ChillPill or Dyson's new HushJet at BookCon, the cheap handheld fans you can score on Amazon are still the most popular choice.

I saw dozens of attendees with colorful disks strapped crossbody throughout the event, and when I asked one person what it was, my jaw dropped as they revealed a collapsible stool — a genius way to have a seat with you while waiting in long lines.

Attendees came prepared to take home all the free things with folding utility carts. By far, the MacoPro folding utility cart was the most popular option. Plus, with its flat top, it's basically a portable chair, too.
