As of June 10, you can pick up the Sony ULT Field 5 at Amazon for only $142.95. That's 26% off its list price of $329.99 and a new best-ever price for the speaker.
SEE ALSO: The best speakers in 2025While we haven't had a chance to do hands-on testing with the ULT Field 5, Mashable's Deputy Reviews Editor Miller Kern spent some time with the ULT Field 1 and ULT Field 3 and is impressed with the speakers as a whole. The entire lineup was designed for bass lovers. So, if heavy bass isn't your cup of tea, the ULT Field 5 (or any of the ULT Field speakers for that matter) is probably not for you.
The Field 5 is completely waterproof, dust-proof, and rust-proof, with an IP67 certification. It can stand vertically or lay horizontally to suit your space and comes with a removable shoulder strap. While still technically a portable speaker, it's a bit on the hefty side (about 7.3 pounds) and "would be better for more stationary uses like house parties," Kern writes. The Field 5 also packs a slightly longer battery life than the smaller Field 3 (25 hours versus 24), has more customizable audio, more output, deeper bass, and fun party lights.
Based on the sheer power and impressive bass of the ULT Field speakers we have tested, we don't think you'll be disappointed in the ULT Field 5. And at $87 off, you certainly won't be disappointed in the price.

Hereditary and Midsommar writer/director Ari Aster pits Pedro Pascal and Joaquin Phoenix against one another in the critically heralded thriller, Eddington.
Eddington returns audiences to May of 2020, when COVID-19 brought the world to a standstill and protests over racial division and the murder of George Floyd rocked the US.
In the small town of Eddington, New Mexico, the convergence of these issues has created a major rift, with Pascal's progressive Mayor Ted Garcia on one side and Phoenix's Sheriff Joe Cross on the other. When Joe challenges Ted in the next mayoral election, their rivalry sparks a powder keg that could have disastrous consequences for the entire town. (All 2,345 citizens.)
SEE ALSO: Summer Movie Preview: What's coming to theaters and streaming? While Aster made his name in horror, the trailer for Eddington suggests it's more of a Western thriller, with the titular town not being big enough for both Joe and Ted's ambitions. Between Western staples like stand-offs and shootouts, the trailer above also re-visits the pandemic bubble of 2020, featuring everything from COVID-19 nasal swabs (ouch) to discussions of social distancing.
The 2020 setting also allows Aster to explore the increased role social media and conspiracy theories played during social isolation. But Eddington goes beyond mere doomscrolling. Emma Stone plays Joe's conspiracy-obsessed wife Louise, while Austin Butler portrays the cult leader she latches onto. Get a sneak peek of their unsettling performances in the trailer above, which threads the needle between absurdity and the all-too real anxieties of 2020.
Eddington also stars Luke Grimes, Deirdre O'Connell, Micheal Ward, Amélie Hoeferle, Clifton Collins Jr., and William Belleau.

Apple's new tvOS 26 has a very cool feature you may have missed in yesterday's news onslaught that was the WWDC opening keynote.
If you're not familiar with it, Apple Music Sing is a feature in Apple Music on the iPhone, iPad, and Apple TV 4K, introduced in 2022, that lets you sing along to a song's lyrics.
Until now, the feature wasn't particularly advanced; it boiled down to the ability to turn down a song's vocals while reading its lyrics in real-time.
However, in tvOS 26, which just became available as a developer beta, Apple has taken Sing a little further with several new features. Most importantly, you can now use an iPhone as a hand-held microphone, and have your voice amplified and reproduced alongside the music. Yes, just like a real karaoke session.
Others can join in with their iPhones too, as long as they have an iPhone 11 or later, running the latest iOS.
SEE ALSO: For iPadOS 26, Apple invents something called 'Windows'You can sing along to a tune even if you don't know the language; a feature called Lyrics Translation and Pronunciation will guide you. It's only available for select songs and in a handful of languages; for a full list, check the fine print here.

A partial outage affecting ChatGPT, Sora and APIs is currently under investigation, according to OpenAI's status page.
The outage was first reported about five hours ago and reports of users experiencing errors has steadily increased since, according to Downdetector, a service owned by Mashable parent company Ziff Davis.
Users on social media highlighted "too many concurrent requests" as the error message appearing when they attempt to use ChatGPT.
This Tweet is currently unavailable. It might be loading or has been removed. At 8:35 a.m. ET, OpenAI said it identified the root cause of the error and is implementing a fix.
This is a developing story and will be updated as new details emerge.
In an online landscape where AI is everywhere, including dating apps, it's not shocking that some singles are using AI to meet a partner.
Just over a quarter, 26 percent of singles, are using artificial intelligence to enhance their dating lives, according to Match's latest Singles in America study. This is a whopping 333 percent increase from 2024.
SEE ALSO: Majority of Gen Z would marry an AI, survey saysMatch and the Kinsey Institute surveyed around 5,000 U.S. singles between the ages of 18 and 98. According to the report, nearly half of Gen Z singles have already used AI in their dating lives, whether to better craft their profiles or messages, or to screen for compatibility. Out of all singles, 44 percent said they'd like AI to help filter matches, and 40 percent want help creating the perfect dating profile.
According to the report, nearly half of Gen Z singles have already used AI in their dating lives, whether to better craft their profiles or messages, or to screen for compatibility.Meanwhile, 44 percent consider it a dealbreaker to use AI to alter their photos, and 36 percent consider it a dealbreaker to use AI to generate conversations. Some daters Mashable spoke to earlier this year believe AI shouldn't be used in dating at all, as it's disingenuous, but others see it as another tool of the trade.
"AI isn't replacing intimacy, it's giving singles an edge," said Dr. Amanda Gesselman, psychologist at Kinsey and Match's director of sex and relationship science, in the press release. "For a generation overwhelmed by options, tools that bring clarity and efficiency are more than welcome."
While Gesselman says AI isn't replacing intimacy, Match found that 16 percent of singles have engaged with AI as a romantic companion. This soars to 33 percent of Gen Z and then 23 percent of millennials. A different, non-Match survey from April found that 8 in 10 members of Gen Z would marry an AI. An expert told Mashable at the time that it makes sense given that younger people are digital natives, but it comes with risks. Some researchers say AI companions are dangerous for minors because they could develop an emotional dependence on them.
It seems that singles are leaning into both technology and romance. Seven in 10 respondents said that they believe in destiny when it comes to relationships, with 73 percent of singles believing in forever love. Belief in love at first sight has increased to 60 percent, up from 34 percent in 2014.
Featured Video For You Mashable Rants: Is flirting with AI considered cheating? But people may not actually be seeing this play out IRL. Thirty-nine percent of singles say they don't know anyone in their life who represents "relationship goals." People are looking to social media for their ideas on modern love.
"Reality TV and Instagram have made love feel more like a highlight reel than a lived experience," said Gesselman. "The pressure to find something picture-perfect can be paralyzing."
Reality TV, Instagram — and AI. Forty-five percent of survey respondents said AI partners make them feel more understood, and active daters are three times more likely than inactive daters to turn to AI for companionship. And 40 percent say having an AI boyfriend or girlfriend is cheating — a debate that Mashable has weighed in on.
But will daters even want a human companion if AI "understands" them? We might have to wait for the 2026 survey to know.

The stairs of Air Force One were often cruel to Joe Biden, and now it appears they've come for Donald Trump.
Over the weekend a clip of the U.S. president tripping up the stairs has gone viral, and Stephen Colbert's The Late Show responded in the only way it could: with a parody GOP ad claiming Trump is waging war on staircases across America.
So silly.
If I had to buy every book I read, I wouldn't be able to pay rent. Reading for free isn't hard; I'm always exchanging books with friends, scouring my neighborhood's little free libraries, and of course, I love my local library. However, as an e-reader expert and enthusiast, I'm almost always using a device for reading. But as I use and test e-readers, I still need to be able to use my library card and read for free. That's where Libby comes in.
Libby is the best app on my phone. It connects you with library networks (of which you're a card-carrying member) so you can borrow and read e-books on the Libby app or an e-reader, like Kindle. Having used Libby for several years, it's a crucial part of my content diet and an invaluable resource for staying well-read.
How does Libby work? Felt like hitting the jackpot to find Emily Henry's "Great Big Beautiful Life" as ready to borrow. Credit: Screenshot: Libby After several weeks, my copy of "Stag Dance" by Torrey Peters was finally ready to borrow and be added to my library. Credit: Screenshot: LibbyLibby, which is part of the OverDrive system, connects you with your library's digital collection. To use Libby, sign in using your library card information. Have multiple library cards? You can attach as many cards to your account as possible. Once logged in, you can browse your library's digital collection. Some books will be ready to borrow right away, which you can check out and will automatically be added to your library.
Other books will require you to place a hold. New and popular books will often require long waits, but a pro tip: Having multiple library cards allows you to compare wait times at different libraries, so you can get in the shortest line.
Once a hold is ready to borrow, it will appear in your library, allowing you to check it out. Libby lets you borrow books for two weeks. Some books can be renewed while others, that have people waiting to borrow them, can't be renewed.
Where can you read books with Libby? When you borrow a book on Libby, it'll give you multiple options on how to read. Credit: Screenshot: LibbyYou have a couple of options on how to read your Libby books. You can do it within the Libby app on a smartphone or tablet. You can also read on a browser through the Libby website. The best part about using the Libby app or website is that it syncs your progress across all devices. That way, if you leave your iPad at home, you can read on your iPhone and pick up right where you left off.
Libby also allows you to read its books as ePUB files. The best way to do so is by using Adobe Digital Editions, so if you have a device with Adobe access but not Libby access, like Boox e-readers, you can still access your borrowed books.
To read on an e-reader, you can also send your books directly to a Kobo or Kindle device. Kobo has the smoothest Libby integration. You can log in via Overdrive (Libby's parent company) on your device, and when you borrow books, they'll auto-populate in your library.
For Kindle users, there are a couple of extra steps in the process.
Featured Video For You Kindle Paperwhite vs. Kobo Clara Colour: Which one is better? How to read Libby books on Kindle To read Libby books with Kindle, you'll have to manually send it to your Kindle library. Credit: Screenshot: Amazon Once you send your Libby loan to the Kindle, it will automatically populate to your library. However, you still need to download it to your device. Credit: Screenshot: KindleTo read Libby books on a Kindle, select the "Read With Kindle" option within the Libby app. That'll take you to Amazon, where you'll click the "Get Library Book" button. The book will then automatically appear in the library of your Kindle app and devices. Just remember, once the book is in your library, you'll need to download it on your Kindle to start reading.
What's the best e-reader for Libby? The Kindle Paperwhite and Kobo Libra Colour are easily the best e-readers for Libby. Credit: Samantha Mangino / MashableThe best e-readers for Libby are either the Kobo Libra Colour or the Kindle Paperwhite. Which one you go for depends on how you use Libby. If you just have one library card, the Kobo is the best e-reader for Libby. All of your borrowed Libby books automatically populate on the device without needing to press any extra buttons. The downside is that you can only have one Libby account attached to your Kobo at a time.
If you have multiple library cards, the Kindle Paperwhite is the best e-reader for Libby. While it requires one extra step to get your books on the device, you can borrow with multiple cards simultaneously.
If you don't want to buy an e-reader, you can get started with Libby immediately by reading on a smartphone or tablet that you already own. If you're going to read on a tablet, I recommend the iPad mini, which is smaller than other models, preventing wrist strain while holding the device. The screen of an iPad is sometimes too glossy for reading, and if that hurts your eyes, you can add a paper-like screen cover.
Avoid the Barnes & Noble Nook and Boox e-readers for reading with Libby, as both require tedious steps to get your library books on the devices.
Opens in a new window Credit: Kobo Kobo Libra Colour $229.99 at RakutenThere aren't many downsides to Libby — I'd argue there technically are none. But as a word of warning, I think it's important to view Libby as the library that it is and not as an e-book store. With an e-book store, you can buy nearly any title you want, but with a library, sometimes books aren't available.
This can sometimes be because libraries have limited copies, so you have to wait weeks or even months for a book to become available to borrow. But sometimes your library just won't have a book in its collection at all. The best way to avoid this issue is to get multiple library cards since different networks have varying catalogs.
Stephen Colbert, Seth Meyers, and John Oliver have all weighed in on the Trump-Musk feud at this point, but Jon Stewart wasn't about to let his weekly Daily Show hosting gig go by without saying his piece too.
In the clip above, the host recaps the feud — which started with Musk attacking Trump's "big beautiful bill" and ended with the two trading escalating blows on social media — before addressing Republicans directly.
"It must be hard for the right to see how petty and petulant these two man-babies are, and how they wield their power in vindictive and capricious manners when they don't get exactly their way, and the damage that that behaviour causes. And I guess what I would say to the right is: Welcome to our f***ing world. Every day. Now you know," says Stewart.
"You on the right didn't give a shit when Godzilla and Mothra teamed up to destroy the city. You're only mad now they're fighting each other. Because you just got a taste of their paper-thin, oversensitive, fragile, ego-driven, nihilism."
The Nintendo Switch 2 launch day has come and gone, and those lucky enough to get a console are already happily playing Mario Kart World and other launch titles.
Starting on June 5, gamers could finally purchase the Switch 2 console for $449.99 and the Nintendo Switch 2 + Mario Kart World Bundle for $499.99 — if you could find it in stock. Costco had inventory available on June 5, and Target started selling its inventory online on June 6, but as of this writing, it's unavailable at all retailers. GameStop and Staples at least have tools that let you check available stock at nearby stores.

To avoid hoarding and reselling, Nintendo and retailers are limiting orders per person. That means you'll need to make an account to successfully place an order. We also recommend reviewing our tips for tracking restocks, and in the meantime, try all the links below.
Place an order with NintendoYou can't simply go to the My Nintendo Store and buy the Switch 2. To order the Switch 2, you need to log in with an active, paid Nintendo Switch Online account. Once you do that, you can choose either a Switch 2 standalone console or the Mario Kart World bundle and then hit the confirm button to "register your interest" in ordering a Switch 2.
Now for the weird stuff. Only Switch Online members who have paid for at least 12 months of service and registered at least 50 hours of gameplay on their Switch consoles can purchase through Nintendo. In other words, you better be a true Switch gamer if you want to buy the Switch 2 this way. If you're eligible and follow these steps, watch your email for an invitation link.

You'll notice there's one major retailer conspicuously missing so far — Amazon. The popularity of Ninja and Shark appliances is undeniable. The brand touches nearly every room in your home. It makes vacuums to keep your floors clean, air purifiers to refresh the air, hair stylers for at-home blowouts, and an appliance for every step of the cooking process. But with such an expansive catalog, it can be hard to sort through the best of the brand.
We wanted to test our way through the best Ninja had to offer in kitchen appliances. We brought the most popular products from the brand into our kitchens to see how the Creami, Slushi, and Foodi stacked up.
Here are the best Ninja kitchen appliances we tested.
Why buy Ninja? There are plenty of kitchen appliance brands out there, so why Ninja? Generally, we find its products to be some of the best value products. They tend to be the most affordable options on the market that still deliver excellent performance.
Plus, Ninja products are really beginner-friendly devices that are easy to use with minimal setup required. The appliances bring ease with delicious end products. The Creami is a perfect example of this. Traditional ice cream making requires a bit of skill, knowing how to cook custards to the right temperature with hours of churning. But the Creami simplifies ice cream making with a user-friendly product that still delivers a fantastic end result.
Just because they're beginner-friendly devices doesn't mean they're only for beginners. They're convenient devices with professional-level performance that help develop a more efficient kitchen.
Other products we testedHaving rounded up the best Ninja kitchen appliances means we tested a lot of products and not all of them made it to the list, two notable exceptions being the Ninja Creami Deluxe and Foodi Grill and Air Fryer.
The Ninja Deluxe was my introduction to the Creami lineup, and it is great. It spun up creamy frozen confections and even featured a frozen drink setting. However, compared to the Swirl, it required several re-spins to get the right texture.
Meanwhile, the Foodi Grill was another great multicooker from Ninja. The indoor grill made delicious, juicy chicken breasts with actual char marks. Plus, its air-frying capabilities were a little too good. It got things crispy fast, but often felt like it dried out food in the process. Plus, it was just so large that it didn't feel like a practical device for most people.
That being said, these devices are good, but not in our all-star line-up.
The Polestar 4 officially launched in the U.S., Europe and Australia last year, going head to head with Tesla's Model Y in the mid-sized electric SUV space. However, an alternate option for the Musk-averse consumer is far from all this EV has to offer. Polestar has also gotten creative, completely forgoing a rear window in favour of a camera feeding live footage to the driver.
It's an unexpected departure from the norm, which serves to distinguish the Polestar 4 from its competitors. However, it will certainly take some getting used to and may not be for everyone.
Why did the Polestar 4 get rid of the rear window? Credit: Amanda Yeo / MashableThe Polestar 4's rear-view camera is a collaboration with Gentex, who developed the technology. Mounted on the back of the Polestar 4's roof, the 2.5-megapixel camera sits within a small fin-like protrusion alongside the EV's Advanced Driver Assistance System (ADAS).
Rather than displaying the camera feed on the Polestar 4's large navigation screen, or even the dashboard, the rear-view camera's footage is streamed directly to the rear-view mirror — or rather, rear-view screen. This narrow display is shaped and mounted like a traditional rear-view mirror, completely replacing its lower-tech counterpart.
It does seem like an unnecessary complication to a feature that already exists. However, Polestar's head of program management Henrik Svensson told Mashable that this technology actually adds more functionality and has been "well-tested," noting that Gentex's rear-view camera system has previously been used in racing cars as well.
"There's also a 360 view around the car, which helps it in more cramped situations, parking and stuff like that," said Svensson. "The rear visibility [of SUV coupes] today is quite limited, because it's all only a small screen that you can look through. And here we see that we actually improve the situation with the camera."
Credit: Amanda Yeo / MashableRear windows and rear cameras aren't necessarily mutually exclusive features in a car. Still, Polestar has decided to get rid of the Polestar 4's rear window and rely entirely on the rear-view camera system, prioritising aesthetic design and the passenger experience.
"The reason why we went this track without the rear window was that we would like to, number one, optimize the interior, number two, have a really nice design of the car — design was really important for us — and also, number three, there is also that we see that we can manage to do it with the technical solutions we have out on the market today," Svensson said.
To paraphrase Jeff Goldblum in Jurassic Park, the fact that something can be done isn't necessarily a reason that it should. Even so, Polestar is confident its rear-view camera is reliable enough to render rear windows optional.
The Polestar 4 ditches the rear window for a spacious passenger experience Credit: Amanda Yeo / MashableMany drivers' instinctual reaction to the Polestar 4's virtual rear-view camera is likely to be apprehension at minimum. After all, rear-view mirrors and the ol' twist-in-your-seat have served drivers well for decades. Even considering that parking cameras are now commonplace, axing back window visibility renders useless a safety manoeuvre that is instinctual for the vast majority of drivers.
The Polestar 4 does have a beautiful design, with spacious seats that feel like flying first class. Having spent a couple of hours riding in the EV, I found it an enjoyable, fairly luxurious experience in both the front and back.
Despite this, the minimal enhancements and additional functionality don't necessarily feel worth the loss of the Polestar 4's rear window. While the back seats can be slightly adjusted, the maximum recline is so mild that passengers are unlikely to notice a difference at all. When looking at two seats side by side, you'd be hard pressed to tell which had been tilted back and which was upright.
Credit: Amanda Yeo / MashableMeanwhile, it was disconcerting to keep turning my head to verify what I was seeing in the rear-view screen, only to be met with the dark expanse of the Polestar 4's admittedly comfortable interior. Though not claustrophobic, it did feel unsettling to be forced to rely solely on the small rear-view display, even as a passenger.
The Polestar 4's rear-view screen can be manually switched to function as a traditional mirror, but the lack of a rear window means you can't see both the rear view and the back seat at the same time. For parents, that will mean choosing between keeping an eye on the road or on their kids. Though to be fair, those with young, sticky-fingered children will probably think long and hard about investing in any car that feels as luxurious as the Polestar 4 anyway.
Polestar is aware that its rear-view system is a significant change, and is working hard to reassure drivers of its capability. The company argues that the camera system is worthwhile due to benefits such as the aforementioned 360-degree view and a 121-degree field of view — a wider viewing angle than a traditional rear-view mirror. However, considering the seemingly small benefit of losing the rear window, it raises the question of whether the Polestar 4 could have kept it and simply added the roof-mounted camera as well.
A rear-view mirror vs a rear-view camera Credit: Amanda Yeo / MashableIn addition to this, the Polestar 4's rear-view camera feels both familiar and uncanny. Though the display looks and in some ways acts like a mirror, the image initially felt strangely flat and lacking the depth that would help drivers more accurately judge their location in relation to other objects. This wasn't helped by the fact that, unlike standard rear-view mirrors, the Polestar 4's digital rear-view camera doesn't allow you to see the back seats' headrests to help you evaluate distance.
A likely contributor to this is the plastic effect, a known phenomenon where images seen in mirrors appear to have greater depth. Considering that drivers have been using mirrors for decades and grown accustomed to the depth they provide, it would be unsurprising if some are initially unsettled by the comparatively flatter image of a screen. It also seems theoretically possible that the screen may impact the drivers' experience of psychological distance, specifically concerning spatial and experiential issues (that is, assessment of physical location and personal proximity to events).
Viewing the Polestar 4's rear-view display, the screen simply didn't register in my brain the same way that a mirror would. While my eyes saw the surface image clearly, it was as though my brain refused to fully ingest what it meant. Drivers I spoke to had similar issues, though they did grow more accustomed to it after spending further time behind the wheel. It's also worth noting that while slightly moving your head can adjust your view in a mirror, such movements do nothing if you're looking at a screen.
These issues aren't necessarily entirely insurmountable, but like any change to a well-established norm, they will take time to adjust to. The question is whether drivers are interested in investing that time.
Credit: Amanda Yeo / MashableSvensson did acknowledge that people will always have varying opinions on new features, but claimed that Polestar hadn't received any major customer complaints about the rear-view camera. In fact, the company intends to continue along this design path in future models, asserting that customers have accepted the Polestar 4's missing rear window.
"In the development phase, we did a lot of testing of this technique, of course, to make sure that we didn't launch anything that we didn't think customers would appreciate," Svensson said.
The average driver may still need more convincing, reluctant to tamper so drastically with standard safety features or invest thousands in an EV that initially feels unsettling. Even so, these concerns may not be deal breakers for others. Early adopters and tech fiends will likely find the Polestar 4's digital rear-view camera fascinating, and it's certainly an intriguing talking point. While there are a few critics on the Polestar subreddit, the general consensus appears to be that it just takes getting used to.
Regardless of your (rear) view, it's at least exciting to know that car manufacturers are continuing to innovate, even if there wasn't necessarily anything that needed fixing here. The Polestar 4's rear-view camera is a large step in the continued march toward increasingly more high-tech solutions, and it seems the automaker has no interest in turning back.

The best Windows laptops run an impressive gamut, from Qualcomm-powered workhorses that refuse to die to dual-display stunners and subtle gaming stations. (Some of them, dare we say, will tempt even the most devoted Apple MacBook disciples.) Users who need a new laptop for everyday productivity, creativity, or entertainment have no shortage of options. And that's for better or worse.

All of these laptops have been thoroughly hands-on tested by members of the Mashable team for performance, build quality, and battery life, and we stand by their value — or at least think they're worth hunting down on sale.
Best Windows laptop to buy 2025As of June 2025, Mashable's favorite Windows laptop is the 13.8-inch Microsoft Surface Laptop 7, an elegant workhorse powered by the impressive Snapdragon X Elite processor. It's got enough power to handle demanding workloads, a premium design, interesting AI features, and the best battery life out of all the laptops we've ever reviewed. Even the latest M4 MacBooks can't keep up.
Read on for Mashable's in-depth guide to the best Windows laptops of 2025. FYI: We've listed the pricing and specs of our testing units, which may not apply to each laptop's base model.
What's on deckOur team has several Windows laptops in hand for testing, including two AI-ready gaming laptops:
the latest Intel-powered Framework Laptop 13, an upgradable and repairable PC
the new Asus ZenBook A14, the "world's lightest Copilot+ PC" (and the winner of Mashable's Best of CES award in the laptop category this year)
the latest Asus VivoBook S 15, a Copilot+ PC that comes in just under $1,000
the latest Lenovo Yoga Slim 7x (Gen 9), a mid-range Copilot+ PC with an OLED touchscreen
the Acer Predator Helios 16, a 16-inch gaming laptop with a 240Hz display and an RTX 4080 GPU
the MSI Stealth A16 AI+, another 16-inch gaming laptop with a 240Hz display and an RTX 4070 GPU
I recently tested the Dell XPS 13 (9350), a 13-inch Lunar Lake Copilot+ PC with an anti-reflective tandem OLED touchscreen display. Above all, it's a gorgeous laptop: That display is one of the nicest I've ever seen, and its edge-to-edge design gives it a super premium, minimalist look. It also lasted more than 13 hours in our battery life test, which is great when you factor in that power-sucking display.
However, the XPS 13 favors prettiness over practicality in certain ways that make it a pain to use. Namely, its zero-lattic keyboard felt cramped, its glass touchpad often misbehaved, and its port selection was dire. (There are just two Thunderbolt 4/USB-C ports — that's too much minimalism, IMO.)
Those might've been more forgivable if the XPS 13 didn't cost so much. My testing unit with a firmly mid-range Intel Core Ultra 256V CPU, 16GB of RAM, and only 512GB of storage goes for $1,849.99. You can knock that down to $1,199.99 if you go without the OLED display upgrade, which feels way more reasonable, but at the same time, that was the one thing I liked most about it. I rated it a 3.8/5 overall.
Earlier this year, I tested the HP OmniBook Ultra Flip 14, a slick convertible with awesome build quality, an excellent 15-hour battery life, and a beautiful design that includes a 3K OLED touchscreen. It's a knockout, but its weird port placements and middling Geekbench 6 multi-core score kept it from earning a Mashable Choice Award. (I rated it a 4.4/5 overall — so close!)
To give more context to the latter point, my $1,899.99 testing unit had an Intel Core Ultra 258V processor with 32GB of RAM and 2TB of storage. (That's a brand-new upper mid-range CPU.) In our Geekbench 6 benchmark, it scored slightly worse than the 15-inch M2 Apple MacBook Air from 2023 and significantly worse than its predecessor, last year's HP Spectre x360 14, which had a mid-range Intel Core Series 1 CPU as tested. For nearly $2,000, I wanted way more oomph from the OmniBook.
I do think the OmniBook Ultra Flip 14 is a decent splurge for future-proofers, but it's not well-rounded enough to be one of our top picks. Stick with the Yoga 9i 14 if you're looking for the best hybrid laptop out there, or look into the Spectre x360 14 if you want to stay within the HP family — it offers better performance and audio quality for about the same price as the OmniBook model.
