Hackers are exploiting a vulnerability in lots of e-commerce sites

Mashable - Thu, 03/26/2026 - 14:16

Hackers have found their way into a large number of internet e-commerce sites.

This latest cybersecurity threat targets web stores running on the Magento or Adobe Commerce platforms, according to BleepingComputer, which cited the security firm Sansec as first publicizing the exploit. That was just over a week ago, and since Sansec exposed the vulnerability, known as PolyShell, the firm claimed that 56 percent of vulnerable stores have been experienced attacks.

SEE ALSO: Hackers says they breached Crunchyroll, stole nearly 7 million users' data

You can check out Sansec's analysis for the full technical details of what's going on, but in the simplest terms possible, it seems hackers have managed to insert a credit card skimmer into the API for Magento, an open-source e-commerce platform acquired by Adobe several years ago. Sansec says it spotted the attack being used on an unnamed "major car manufacturer."

We have contacted Adobe for comment and will update this story if they respond.

Adobe has released a fix for this in the beta branch of its software, but that doesn't help the presumably vast majority of sites running the non-beta version of the software. Until the fix goes public, this will be an issue for any site running Magento or Adobe Commerce.

Jmail creators release Jeffrey Epstein’s calendar as JCal

Mashable - Thu, 03/26/2026 - 12:58

The creators of Jmail, the viral Gmail clone that mimics Jeffrey Epstein's email inbox, are back at it again.

This time, the makers of Jmail have created JCal, a Google Calendar clone that shows you what Jeffrey Epstein's Google Calendar likely looked like. The calendar events are based on Epstein's schedule, as detailed through document releases in the Epstein Files. JCal contains 20 years of Epstein's calendar schedule.

This Tweet is currently unavailable. It might be loading or has been removed.

Epstein, a convicted sex offender who was found dead in his jail cell in 2019 after being charged with sex trafficking of minors, notoriously surrounded himself with rich, powerful, and famous figures. Meetings and other scheduled events with these well-known individuals appear alongside mundane events, like haircut appointments, giving JCal visitors a glimpse into how a connected individual like Epstein lived.

JCal looks exactly like Google Calendar, except it's populated with calendar events from Epstein's own schedule. Clicking on an event will bring up additional details, just like it does with Google Calendar. The JMail team says the notes on each calendar event were created by them to give context about each event based on the email from the Epstein Files where the event was mentioned. Each event includes a link to the source email from the Epstein Files as well.

According to the Jmail team, the JCal event listings are likely to grow as they continue to pull from other areas where Epstein likely schedule events, such as his released text message archive. The team says they are also building a search function into JCal as well.

The release of the Epstein Files, documents collected from Epstein estate through investigations, have become a major point of contention during President Donald Trump's second term, have made this project by digital creator Riley Walz and developer Luke Igel possible.

The two originally created Jmail last November, which eventually went viral with the release of each batch of the Epstein Files. The project soon  expanded into showing clones of other Google products as seen through the eyes of Epstein. The number of people working on Jmail has also expanded since, with the Jmail team thanking software developer Matheus Mendes and others for their work on creating JCal.

Mendes had also previously created JeffTube, a YouTube clone that mimicked what Epstein's YouTube channel would look like. The JeffTube "channel" is made up of around 140 videos from the Epstein Files that have been released by the DOJ. With Jmail's popularity growing, JeffTube was eventually integrated into Jmail's larger project and Mendes began working with the Jmail team.

JCal and JeffTube live alongside other "products" in Jmail's "suite" such as JPhotos, which contain all the photos in the Epstein Files, and JDrive, which includes documents fund in the Epstein Files.

Are MacBook Neos discounted for the Amazon Spring Sale? Kind of!

Mashable - Thu, 03/26/2026 - 12:31

Earlier this month, Apple released the MacBook Neo, a colorful new budget laptop that landed like a bomb in the laptop world. Priced at $599, the newest member of the MacBook family has been a magnet for hot takes in the tech world.

So, is the MacBook Neo on sale during the Amazon Big Spring Sale 2026? Technically, yes.

Opens in a new window Credit: Apple Apple MacBook Neo, 13-inches (A18 Pro chip, 8GB RAM, 512GB SSD) $689.99 at Amazon
$699 Save $9.01   Get Deal

The MacBook Neo comes in two configurations: a base model with 256GB of storage for $599 and an upgrade version with Touch ID and 512GB of storage for $699.

Amazon has discounted the Touch ID version to $689.99, a whopping $9.01 discount.

So, while that's technically a reduction from the retail price, it's not much of a deal, even if it's the best price on offer. However, there is another way to save. If you qualify for Apple's famous education discount — students, teachers, and other educational professionals qualify — you can take $100 off the price and pick up this laptop for $499 or $599 by shopping direct with Apple.

The Amazon Big Spring Sale has lots more Apple deals

Through March 31, Amazon is running its Big Spring Sale, which features significant discounts across almost every category. As far as tech goes, we are seeing some great deals on some of our favorite brands, including Ninja, Jackery, Bluetti, and more. As for Apple, you can find a ton of iPads, Apple Watches, and MacBooks on sale. The beloved and sparkling new AirPods Max 2 are seeing a $20 drop in price, for example.

SEE ALSO: We found the best Apple deals from Amazon's Spring Sale — save on AirPods, iPads, and MacBooks

The AirPods Max 2 and MacBook Neo are both new as of March 2026, and they're both sneakily on sale during the BSS. The discounted price doesn’t directly advertise on the page, but we can verify the 512GB version with Touch ID is $9.01 off its typical list price of $699.

We don't expect either of these products to get any more price drops, but we'll be watching them like a hawk in case they do.

Is the MacBook Neo worth it? Credit: Timothy Werth / Mashable

Even for $699, the MacBook Neo puts most Windows laptops to shame.

Mashable’s own tech editor, Timothy Werth, tested and loved the new budget laptop from Apple. “The MacBook Neo brings the premium features of a MacBook — Liquid Retina Display, the intuitive macOS, a sleek aluminum design — to an entirely new market segment: the budget laptop,” Werth said in his review. “And if you qualify for the $499 education discount, this is truly a laptop with no viable competition, full stop.”

Werth admits that professionals working with massive files, intense editing projects, or looking for horsepower should consider the MacBook Pro with an M5 chip — not the Neo. Instead, he says, “ the MacBook Neo is meant to be a baby's first laptop, and I mean that as a compliment. It's a starter laptop you might buy for a high school or college student.”

This budget laptop is meant for folks who mostly perform basic tasks like scrolling, streaming, and document editing. Still, Werth tested out the video editing software on the Neo with surprising success. Overall, it appears that 8GB of RAM in an Apple product with an A18 chip is still capable of quite a lot.

To top it all off, the colors honestly rule. You have your pick of indigo, blush, citrus, and silver; colors previously unseen for Apple laptops.

Again, for the best possible price, folks in the education world should pursue the $100 education discount Apple offers

How to check TSA wait times online

Mashable - Thu, 03/26/2026 - 12:15

If you have been one of the millions of flyers hit by hours-long TSA wait times, or if you're one of the thousands of TSA agents working without pay during the partial federal shutdown: I am sorry.

As of March 24, more than 2 million travelers were passing through TSA daily, experiencing up to 6-hour wait times at the busiest airports. More than 480 TSA officers have quit in the 40-days since Department of Homeland Security funding lapsed. Another 3,000 have called out of work. The agents, who make $35,000 per year on average, have now missed two full pay periods.

SEE ALSO: After killing Sora, what OpenAI does next will define it

The situation has been exacerbated by the presence of Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents at terminals across the U.S. Deployed by the Trump administration as a proposed solution to understaffing, flyers have already reported ICE agents detaining flyers at San Francisco International Airport.

Most major airports are now recommending travelers arrive around 4 hours before their flights to get through the lines with time to spare.

Can I check TSA wait times?

Short answer: Yes. There are multiple sites online that track security wait times, including trackers hosted by major terminals themselves. The Department of Homeland Security has previously encouraged flyers to download the MyTSA app to check security times, for example.

But much like the less-than-reliable amusement park apps that tell you the wait for rides is only 30 minutes (it never is), these websites are not entirely accurate. And, making everything worse, most of the federally-run trackers are no longer being managed or updated while the government is in shutdown. That's also why third-party trackers, which often pull their data from publicly available APIs, may be similarly inaccurate.

Most major airports like New York's JFK, have begun to turn off their own wait time trackers in light of inaccuracies and delays. JFK's homepage even displays an alert:

"Due to the federal funding lapse, security wait times may be significantly longer than normal. Wait times are subject to rapid change based on passenger volumes and TSA staffing. For these reasons, wait time reporting has been temporarily suspended. Please allow for significantly more time and check with your airline for the current status of your flight."

With official avenues down, your best bet may just be your fellow flyers.

Reddit users on r/delta and r/airport, for example, are sharing live updates on their waits and posting photos of current lines — subreddits in cities particularly affected by understaffing are actively updating TSA megathreads too, like r/houston and r/atlanta. Others have taken to r/TSA to try to ask for advice directly from security staffers. TikTok is flooded with people vlogging their waits — using these anecdotes as reference may help you more effectively plan.

Can I make my wait shorter?

The standard advice is to purchase TSA PreCheck, a fee-based authorization service that lets flyers skip many steps of the security process and wait in a separate line from the non-payers. There's also CLEAR, an identity verification service in which flyers can use to skip ID check lines.

Both services are intended to get travelers through airports faster, but users online have reported that even PreCheck lines are snaking through terminals, with a few viral videos showing longer wait times than standard TSA lines. Some overly strained airports have also closed their PreCheck and Clear lines, including Bush Airport in Houston, due to understaffing.

If you're flying without a RealID — which is now required to travel, at least on paper — and don't have another form of valid identification, you must pay a fee to the TSA before you enter the security line at the airport. It's known as the TSA ConfirmID Program, and it requires a more involved security check and pat down than regular TSA. However, at some airports, that check is down outside of general security lines, much like how TSA PreCheck works.

Anecdotally, a visiting friend who flew out of JFK on March 21 told me she got through TSA in about 30 minutes, skipping the lines because she was flagged for a TSA ConfirmID check (she has no passport, and no RealID).

What happens if I miss my flight?

Typically, airlines are not responsible for accommodating flyers who miss their flights because of security delays. But they also know that airports are a complete mess right now.

Allegiant Air said it is temporarily waiving cancellation and change fees for passengers affected by TSA understaffing. For now, Delta has issued a similar waiver for March 24 flyers out of Hartsfield-Jackson airport in Atlanta. United said it would rebook passengers who had flights out of Houston on March 23-24 at no cost and has eliminated "most" ticket change fees, CBS reported.

In an email to the New York Times, a Southwest spokesperson said: “If a customer is unable to make their flight due to T.S.A. wait times, we will rebook them on the next available flight with no additional charge."

That was fast: The new Apple AirPods Max 2 are already on sale one day after their preorders opened. Thank Amazon, which is offering the deal amid its third annual Big Spring Sale, live now through March 31.

The midnight and starlight variants are both marked down to $529.99, which is almost $20 off their normal retail price of $549. (Suffice to say, they've never been cheaper.) They were still stuck at full price at other major retailers like Best Buy, Target, and Walmart.

SEE ALSO: The best AirPods deals to shop in Amazon's Big Spring Sale — AirPods 4 and AirPods Pro 3 on sale

Apple surprise-announced the AirPods Max 2 last week, a small but long-awaited update to its supremely stylish over-ear headphones; they're set for release on April 1. We have yet to test them, but Apple promises that they offer better noise cancellation than the original AirPods Max, which it launched in 2020 and updated with USB-C charging in 2024.

The new AirPods Max 2 also support more smart features, including Adaptive Audio, Conversation Awareness, Voice Isolation, Live Translation, Siri head gestures, and a camera remote. (If you have your camera app pulled up on a paired iPhone or iPad, pressing the AirPods Max 2's Digital Crown takes a picture.) They run on the H2 chip like the AirPods Pro 3.

If you can do without those improvements, note that the first-generation AirPods Max are discounted to $449.99 (in every color) at Amazon, Walmart, and Target this week. They're still not as good a value as other premium noise-canceling headphones from brands like Sony and Bose, but $100 off is $100 off.

Again, this is the first-ever discount for the new AirPods Max 2 headphones, and you can only find this preorder offer at Amazon

United States looks to ban federal use of Chinese robots

Mashable - Thu, 03/26/2026 - 11:23

A pair of United States senators wants to ban the use of Chinese robotics by the government.

Republican Tom Cotton and Democrat Chuck Schumer apparently plan to introduce a bill called the American Security Robotics Act that would bar the federal government from purchasing or using Chinese robots or "unmanned ground vehicles," Reuters reported. It's not entirely clear how much the U.S. government's buying of Chinese robots is a current, ongoing problem, or if it's just something the senators want to prevent in the future.

SEE ALSO: Jimmy Kimmel roasts Melania Trump over her robot companion

The Chinese robotics industry has been growing in recent years, with frequent flashy demonstrations happening at trade shows and whatnot. Companies like Unitree have made advancements in humanoid robots, but Schumer and Cotton are expressing fears about security in the face of more Chinese robots hitting the market. Whether those fears are legitimate or are an example of U.S. saber-rattling towards China might depend on one's point of view.

"[Chinese robotics companies] are running their standard playbook - this time in robotics - trying to flood the U.S. market with their technology, which presents real security risks and threats to Americans' privacy and American research and industry," Schumer said, per Reuters.

Schumer and Cotton aren't alone in this, as Rep. Elise Stefanik from New York plans to release an equivalent bill in the House of Representatives. The U.S.-China robotics rivalry is only going to get more heated from here.

Seth Meyers spends 2 minutes ranting about Trumps bizarre paperclip story

Mashable - Thu, 03/26/2026 - 08:19

Seth Meyers in full-blown rant mode is always an entertaining spectacle.

In the Late Night clip above, the host reacts to footage of Trump explaining how he came up with the idea of sending ICE agents to airports by comparing it to "the story of the paperclip," telling an unfortunate reporter – somewhat incongruously – that "182 years ago a man discovered the paperclip."

"Now, if you're thinking to yourself, 'Is Trump right that the paperclip was invented 182 years ago?', the answer is yes, he is correct," says Meyers in the clip above. "In fact, Trump went on to explain that in the year 1844, an Icelandic cobbler named Magnus Olsen invented an early prototype of the paperclip, consisting of two wooden triangles fastened with twine— AND OF ****ING COURSE IT WASN'T 182 YEARS AGO!! He's just pulling numbers out of his ass!"

Meyers then returns to the clip to further pick it apart, focussing in particular on Trump's use of the word "discover."

"Nobody discovered the paperclip," Meyers says. "It was invented. Do you think Steve Jobs just found an iPod sticking out of the sand at the beach one day?"

OpenAIs adult chatbot probably isnt happening

Mashable - Thu, 03/26/2026 - 08:18

It's been a busy week shutting things down at OpenAI.

Just days after OpenAI unceremoniously pulled the plug on its video generation app Sora, a new report from Financial Times claims the company has put plans to launch an x-rated chatbot on hold "indefinitely."

Originally promised in the fall of 2025 as an extra feature for verified users, the sex-centered adult mode for ChatGPT was delayed a few weeks back. However, it seemed at the time that the company was still intent to launch it eventually, with a a company spokesperson saying that getting the (adult) experience right would "take more time."

Now, however, it appears that the project has been shelved for good. The company will instead focus on its core products, the report said.

The reasoning behind the move isn't that hard to understand, given the headaches the Grok chatbot recently caused its maker xAI over sexualized images of adults and children.

According to the Financial Times, both OpenAI investors and staff raised concerns about a sexualized AI and its effect on society. Furthermore, there were technical challenges – including the bot's inability to accurately distinguish between adults and minors, with an error rate of over 10 percent.

More broadly, it appears that both the shutdown of Sora and the dismantling of adult mode are part of OpenAI's effort to reduce the number of lawsuits hitting the company. Over the past six months, several lawsuits were filed against OpenAI as young people died by suicide after interacting with ChatGPT, prompting the company to introduce an age prediction system in January.

Disclosure: Ziff Davis, Mashable’s parent company, in April filed a lawsuit against OpenAI, alleging it infringed Ziff Davis copyrights in training and operating its AI systems.

Jimmy Kimmel roasts Melania Trump over her robot companion

Mashable - Thu, 03/26/2026 - 07:15

Melania Trump made headlines on Wednesday during the tech summit she's hosting in Washington, D.C., entering the room alongside a humanoid robot — and Jimmy Kimmel had thoughts.

"It was a weird day at the White House today, where our First Lady, Melania Trump, hosted the second day of her global summit, titled 'Fostering the Future Together', which is basically a commercial for AI in education, and she made quite an entrance," says Kimmel, playing footage of Melania and the robot walking towards the cameras side by side. "One of those robots is Melania."

Kimmel goes on to say that things "only got scarier from there", playing footage of Melania announcing that the future of AI is personified.

"Maybe someday we will have a robot president," concludes Kimmel. "Couldn't be worse than what we have right now."
