Your password probably stinks. At least that's what a new study shows.

Researchers at Cybernews studied more than 19 billion leaked passwords, and of those just 6 percent were identified as unique, meaning they weren't re-used or duplicated. To make matters worse, the most common passwords are way too simple. Four percent of all passwords studied by Cybernews — meaning roughly 727 million total passwords — included the phrase "1234." Phrases like "password" and "admin" were also quite common, meaning folks are still relying on pre-set passwords.

“The ‘default password’ problem remains one of the most persistent and dangerous patterns in leaked credential datasets. Entries ‘password’ (56M) and ‘admin’ (53M) reveal that users overwhelmingly rely on simple, predictable defaults,” said Neringa Macijauskaitė, information security researcher at Cybernews, in a statement. “Attackers, too, prioritize them, making these passwords among the least secure.”

The researchers also discovered lots of passwords that relied on names or, funnily enough, curse words. Sixteen million passwords included the F-bomb, for instance.

Studies have show time and again that we suck at creating passwords. As Mashable covered at the end of last year, for instance, a study from NordPass found the most common passwords are wildly simple.

So if you read this article and it seemed...a little too familiar, perhaps it's time to update your passwords. At the very least, don't use "123456."

Rockstar Games posted a message on its website on Friday morning confirming the news that you may have seen coming, but didn't want to hear: Grand Theft Auto VI has been delayed. The game, which until now had a vague release window of late 2025, is now confirmed for launch on May 26, 2026. The full message from Rockstar is as follows:

The story of GTA VI has been a long and winding one. Its predecessor came out in 2013, long enough ago that it was originally an Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 game. I was in college when I played GTA V, and now I'm in my 30s. The incredible financial success of GTA Online and Red Dead Redemption 2 in the meantime meant Rockstar had no incentive to rush the next GTA to market, so after a decade of rumors and leaks, we got one lone trailer in late 2023. This delay announcement is the first thing we've heard from GTA VI since then.

All we really know about the game is that its set in a modern-day rendition of Vice City, the GTA universe's take on Miami. It has two central playable characters, who appear to be in a Bonnie & Clyde kind of relationship with one another, and it generally looks very expensive and pretty. And that's probably all we'll continue to know about GTA VI for a while longer.

At least we have a date now!

Ireland slapped TikTok with serious fines and, perhaps more worrying for the social media company, allegations of questionable data practices. That's a major issue for TikTok and its parent company, ByteDance, which has been attempting to convince the West, most notably the U.S., that its users are safe from their data being shared with China.

The Irish Data Protection Commission (DPC) fined TikTok 530 million euros — roughly $600 million — because it could not guarantee that users' data was being stored in accordance with General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) requirements. The DPC also said that TikTok admitted it had stored limited European user data in China, which it had previously denied. TikTok told the DPC it had since deleted that data.

"The GDPR requires that the high level of protection provided within the European Union continues where personal data is transferred to other countries," DPC Deputy Commissioner Graham Doyle said in a statement.

"TikTok’s personal data transfers to China infringed the GDPR because TikTok failed to verify, guarantee, and demonstrate that the personal data of [European Economic Area] users, remotely accessed by staff in China, was afforded a level of protection essentially equivalent to that guaranteed within the EU."

The fines from Ireland's privacy watchdog could prove damaging for TikTok, especially amid its fight to remain available in the U.S. A renewed U.S. TikTok ban was averted in early April after President Donald Trump once again issued a 75-day extension.

The U.S. law that would ban TikTok does so, in part, over concerns quite similar to those laid out by Ireland's DPC. The U.S. does not want its citizens' data in the hands of China's government. TikTok has insisted it doesn't share U.S. user data with China.

Still, U.S. companies are lining up to purchase TikTok, which may be necessary for the platform to remain in the States.

Spotify's iPhone app in the U.S. now offers its users new payment and subscription options — and some of them could save you money.

The move follows a new decision in Epic Games' lawsuit against Apple, in which a California judge ordered that Apple must allow third-party app developers to direct customers to external payment sites.

Following the ruling, Spotify submitted a new version of its iPhone app, which was approved by Apple on Friday.

"In a victory for consumers, artists, creators, and authors, Apple has approved Spotify’s U.S. app update," wrote Spotify in a blog post. "After nearly a decade, this will finally allow us to freely show clear pricing information and links to purchase, fostering transparency and choice for U.S. consumers. We can now give consumers lower prices, more control, and easier access to the Spotify experience."

In practice, this means that Spotify's iPhone app in the U.S. can now show users pricing details on all of Spotify subscriptions, including promotions that can save users money. Users can more easily switch from one type of account to another, and they can use payment options other than what Apple is offering.

Prior to this change, Spotify was not allowed to show users that they can get a cheaper subscription option by purchasing directly on Spotify's website.

"The fact that we haven’t been able to deliver these basic services, which were permitted by the judge’s order four years ago, is absurd," said the company in its blog post.

Other publishers, including Epic Games and Patreon, have also submitted updated iPhone apps with new payment options to Apple's App Store.

The 36th chapter of the Marvel Cinematic Universe throws together a band of misfits to f*** around and find out. 

Thunderbolts* sees Yelena Belova (Florence Pugh), the Winter Soldier (Sebastian Stan), Red Guardian (David Harbour), John Walker (Wyatt Russell), Taskmaster (Olga Kurylenko), Ghost (Hannah John-Kamen), and a guy named Bob (Lewis Pullman) all somehow working together, but the film digs into some deeper themes of loneliness and despair.

With Beef director Jake Schreier at the helm, Thunderbolts*  finds human moments for these super-powered individuals. Mashable UK Editor Shannon Connellan sat down with the director, as well as John-Kamen and Pullman, to unpack some of the underlying concepts at play amongst the action.

"I brought in a lot of collaborators who can connect with that loneliness, and they're also some of the funniest people I know," said Schreier, who worked on Thunderbolts* with Beef writers Lee Sung Jin (aka Sonny Lee) and Joanna Calo, as well as editor Harry Yoon and production designer Grace Yun.

"I think we always felt like those two things could coexist, that you didn't have to sacrifice comedy or fun to address a sense of emptiness or darkness. Those were themes that we really explored on Beef," he added. "It seems odd to make a summer blockbuster that has those ideas in it, [but] it's not actually any smaller of an idea than anything else you would make a summer blockbuster about."

Schreier, John-Kamen, and Pullman also unpacked one of the best scenes in Thunderbolts*, a life-or-death "team-building exercise" in which Yelena, Bob, John, and Ghost (aka Ava) must shimmy back-to-back up a towering shaft — a scene Schreier said came from one of his earliest pitch meetings to Marvel.

"We always described it in shooting as probably maybe the least-dynamic action sequence in Marvel history, probably," he said.

"It's just such a juxtaposition of what Marvel is," said John-Kamen. "I mean, it's the only way we can get out."

Thunderbolts* is now showing in cinemas.

We all own so many tech gadgets these days that combining functions is always welcomed. You probably have a TV at home for streaming your favorite shows, but is it good enough for gaming? If you’re not one to game on your laptop or you like to spend the weekend with friends playing co-op games in the living room, your TV needs to be up to snuff in terms of performance. Not all TVs are worthy of your gaming skills, and many top-of-the-line models come with a hefty price tag.

If you’re not in the mood to spend thousands on a new TV but you also intend to game in the living room, some of the best budget-friendly TV brands make a few models that are great for gaming.

How to choose a budget-friendly gaming TV

TV jargon is notoriously confusing, and new acronyms pop up often. Instead of leaving you overwhelmed with the decision, we asked PCMag’s Will Greenwald to help out. Greenwald serves as a lead analyst, having tested over 170 TVs for PCMag, which is also owned by Mashable's publisher, Ziff Davis. Here’s the thing about testing TVs — it takes deeply advanced technology that most of us don’t have.

When it comes to TVs capable of handling gaming without costing over $1,000, Greenwald says, “Several of Hisense and TCL's TVs are excellent for gaming on a budget.” Both brands stand out as leaders when it comes to offering a solid price-to-quality ratio.

Gaming must-haves

Gaming, or rather gaming efficiently, means your TV needs to tick a few boxes. We’re looking at the refresh rate and input lag when finding a TV that’s well-equipped for gaming. Without scoring decent numbers on those elements, your gaming experience could be stuttery and interrupted. If your game happens to be full of quick action, you’ll want a TV that can keep up, instead of leaving you in sticky situations.

“For gaming, you should look for a TV with at least a 120Hz refresh rate and VRR, at the very least,” according to Greenwald. Refresh rate refers to how many times per second your TV updates the image, measured in hertz. VRR refers to variable refresh rate, and VRR-equipped TVs are able to match the game’s FPS (frames per second) up to the max refresh rate. For this feature, Greenwald says you want to look out for a gaming TV that comes with AMD FreeSync or Nvidia G-Sync. 

And then there’s input lag, which is "the amount of time between when the TV receives a signal and the screen updates,” according to Greenwald. This is where the PCMag expert testing proves essential because TVs don’t include input lag info in their stats, and you won’t be able to tell when buying a TV online or even when it’s displayed in a store.

In real-life terms, input lag is how long it takes the TV to reflect what happened IRL. Say you press the jump button in the game. Input lag measures how much time it takes for the TV to get that info and show it on screen. As you can imagine, this is a big deal when it comes to gaming.

Since buying a gaming-worthy TV can be overwhelming, we’ve intentionally kept this short and sweet — only selecting a few models that should work well for everyone, following Greenwald’s guidance and expert testing.

The TCL QM6K is Greenwald’s top pick for buying a budget-friendly gaming TV. The refresh rate comes in at 144 Hz and you’ll get AMD FreeSync Premium Pro to tick off that VRR requirement. “The TCL QM6K is a very good value and a strong performer for the price,” said Greenwald in his review. “While it isn’t the brightest TV available, its mini-LED backlight enables deep black levels for excellent contrast, its colors are wide and accurate, and it's packed with features for streaming and gaming.”

Greenwald’s measurements showed the TCL QM6K has an input lag of 7.5 milliseconds when in Game Mode, and anything under 10 milliseconds is considered good for gaming with Greenwald’s advanced equipment.

The TCL QM6K's overall design is also nice, with a slim design that looks modern. Its Google TV platform is one of the best options around, thanks to an intuitive design that keeps all of your streaming options nicely arranged and easy to access. Google Cast lets you stream from an Android device or a Chrome tab, and Apple AirPlay means Apple’s ecosystem can easily push to the TV. While it’s a small detail, the backlighting on the included remote control is really helpful for movie nights.

The 4K QLED display on the TCL QM6K is impressive when it comes to contrast, according to Greenwald, giving off accurate colors and deep blacks. “By the numbers, the QM6K’s contrast is excellent, though it only gets modestly bright compared with slightly more expensive TVs,” Greenwald found after extensive testing. But what makes the TCL QM6K our top pick is the combination of picture quality with gaming features at an affordable price.

If you’re looking for an even more budget-friendly option, consider the 55-inch version of the TCL QM6K, which usually knocks about $200 off the price of the 65-inch. You could also go bigger and grab an 85 or 98-inch model. While the price increases with size, it remains a good value for the cost across the entire line.

In addition to TCL, Hisense is a strong contender when it comes to manufacturing TVs with impressive specs for the price point. The Hisense U8N is one of Greenwald’s top picks for budget-friendly TVs that don’t skimp out on quality, and this model comes with gaming stats that should work well for all but the most serious of gamers. For starters, the Hisense U8N comes with a 144 Hz refresh rate in Game Mode Pro, which is more than acceptable. Plus, it comes equipped with AMD FreeSync Premium Pro, which will give you a better experience in terms of VRR.

When Greenwald tested the Hisense U8N for input lag, his equipment showed a 7.4 millisecond lag when in Game Mode Pro with Instant Game Response enabled. This is pretty quick, according to Greenwald, since anything under 10 milliseconds is PCMag’s threshold for what makes a TV suitable for gaming. Greenwald further explains that a 7.4 millisecond lag works out to just one frame drop per second at the Hisense U8N’s 144 Hz refresh rate.

The one disclaimer with the Hisense U8N’s Game Mode is that Greenwald suggests you turn that feature off once you’re done gaming and switch to watching TV. “Make sure you turn off Game Mode when not playing games, though, because I saw significant clipping in highlights (where very bright parts of the screen blend together and become indistinct) with it turned on,” he noted in his review of the TV.

That all may be about to change, though, as film subscription ticketing service MoviePass has announced the launch of Mogul, "the first fantasy league for Hollywood."

Built on the Sui cryptocurrency blockchain, the game will allow users to draft actors, directors, and movies from a set budget in order to build their own studio. Like in other fantasy sports, your performance in the game will then be determined by real world results (in this case those of the daily box office).

Per the site's FAQs, the game is free to play and you don't need to hold cryptocurrency — although there's a $5 "Battle Pass" which unlocks "deeper rewards". MoviePass, the company behind the platform, has its own complicated history.
