Xboxs rumored handheld console is real and its called ROG Xbox Ally

Mashable - Mon, 06/09/2025 - 11:32

About a month ago, images leaked of an Xbox-branded gaming handheld that looked a lot like an Asus ROG Ally. Now we know why.

During a showcase livestream on Sunday, Microsoft's gaming division confirmed the device's existence in an official capacity. Well, there are two devices, actually: The ROG Xbox Ally and the ROG Xbox Ally X. They both appear to take the basic concept of the original ROG Ally and adapt it for Xbox players by adding controller-like grips and a new user interface that retains all the compatibility with Windows while presenting things in a more game console-like manner.

The user interface in question. Credit: Microsoft

Both devices will launch this holiday season, but unfortunately, you'll have to wait to find out how much they cost and when you can pre-order them. Microsoft has an online sign-up page for pre-order info whenever that becomes available.

The main reason why you might want to get one of these instead of a Steam Deck is if you're already an avid Xbox Game Pass user. Microsoft is promising the full suite of Game Pass features, such as local downloads, game streaming, and remote play. It's possible to access Game Pass on a Steam Deck if you feel like jumping through some technical hoops, but by default, that device is locked to whatever is on your Steam library.

SEE ALSO: 'Call of Duty: Black Ops 7' gets revealed at Xbox Games Showcase 2025

Since the Xbox Ally consoles are Windows-based, you can access any PC gaming library you want as long as it's compatible with Windows. The central UI will consolidate all of your games across every app into one place, too, which is nice. As for specs, both Xbox Ally handhelds have the same 7-inch 1080p display with a 120Hz refresh rate, putting it roughly in line with the Nintendo Switch 2. The Xbox Ally has an AMD Ryzen Z2 A processor, while the Ally X has a more powerful Ryzen AI Z2 Extreme processor, meaning it will be more powerful and certainly more expensive, too.

Other differences between the two models that we know about right now mostly come down to memory and storage. The base Xbox Ally has 16GB RAM and 512GB storage, while the Ally X has 24GB RAM and 1TB storage. Other, more detailed specs will have to wait until later.

In many ways, this is a better value proposition right now than a Steam Deck, but it's also possible that the Xbox Ally costs significantly more. And there's only one gaming handheld that can (legally and legitimately) play Mario Kart World.

Apple's annual Worldwide Developers Conference is finally here. If you didn't make the invite list, you can watch the event live online. You can also keep checking this page for real-time updates as Apple announces new features and products.

While we don't expect any big hardware announcements during WWDC 2025, Apple could surprise everyone. We do expect announcements related to iOS, macOS, tvOS, WatchOS, and more. We'd be surprised if Apple didn't reveal any news related to Apple Intelligence, Siri, and Safari as well.

We'll be updating this live blog in real-time during the keynote presentation, which is scheduled for 10 a.m. PT on June 9.

WWDC 2025 rumor: MacOS Tahoe might run on fewer Macs than expected

Mashable - Mon, 06/09/2025 - 11:12

The latest rumor about World Wide Developers Conference (WWDC) is that Apple's new operating system could support even fewer Macs than previously expected.

As tech-focused outlet Tom's Guide wrote, rumors have long suggested the new MacOS will be called Tahoe and that it'll drop support for older MacBooks and Macs. The models that were expected to be dropped were the 2017 iMac Pro, 2018 Mac mini, 2018 MacBook Pro models, and 2020 MacBook Airs with Intel chips. MacRumors, however, published a report indicating that the new OS could also drop support for the 2020, 13-inch MacBook Pro with two Thunderbolt 3 ports.

This report, however, comes with a major caveat. MacRumors' report cited "a private account on X with a proven track record of leaking information about Apple's software platforms," and the account also apparently wrote it didn't "quite believe" that Apple would actually drop OS support for the model.

SEE ALSO: Everything we know about iOS 26 ahead of Apple WWDC 2025

In short, this is very much a rumor and not a fact. That's not to say it definitely isn't true, just that there still remains uncertainty ahead of Apple's WWDC keynote on Monday.

TikTok star Khaby Lame was detained by ICE. Heres what happened.

Mashable - Mon, 06/09/2025 - 10:59

TikTok star Khaby Lame, the most followed creator on the platform with over 162 million followers, was detained by ICE on Friday.

The U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement agency, which has recently been tasked by the Trump administration to expand its crackdown on immigration and enforce the U.S. president's "mass deportations" election promise, confirmed in a statement to Mashable that Lame was detained for overstaying his visa.

"U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement detained Seringe Khabane Lame, 25, a citizen of Italy, June 6, at the Harry Reid International Airport, Las Vegas, Nevada for immigration violations," a spokesperson said. "Lame entered the United States April 30 and overstayed the terms of his visa. Lame was granted voluntary departure June 6 and has since departed the U.S."

SEE ALSO: An interview with Khaby Lame, TikTok's most-followed creator

Lame is currently the most followed person on TikTok, with over five million more followers than Charli D'Amelio and over 40 million more than MrBeast. The Senegalese-Italian influencer built a following with silent skits making fun of "life hack" TikToks, with his videos eventually evolving to incorporate celebrities.

He has been active on social media since the detainment, but has not addressed what happened.

Samsungs Galaxy Tab S10+ is a beast — and its on sale for $170 off

Mashable - Mon, 06/09/2025 - 10:32

SAVE $170: As of June 9, the Samsung Galaxy Tab S10+ with 512GB of storage and WiFi connectivity is on sale for $949.99 instead of $1,119.99. That's a savings of 15%.

If you're looking for a tablet that can do it all and you aren't tied to the fruit logo, Samsung's Galaxy Tab S10+ is a beast. Seriously, this thing is more impressive than my laptop. And as of June 9, it's on sale for $170 off.

Typically a $1,119.99 tablet, the Galaxy Tab S10+ with 512GB and WiFi connectivity is down to $949.99 at Amazon on June 9. That's a savings of 15%. While that's not its lowest price to date, it certainly beats paying full price.

Not yet a year old, the Galaxy Tab S10+ features a new and improved speaker setup with enhanced AI-powered "Dialogue Boost," heavy Galaxy AI, a lighter build, and a change in processor from Qualcomm Snapdragon to MediaTek Dimensity 9300+. Oddly enough, MediaTek is known for being packed inside budget devices — and the S10+ is far from a budget device. Our friends at PCMag (also owned by Ziff Davis) tested it out and thankfully found the processor to "handle everything from video calls and drawing to gaming and productivity" seamlessly, even awarding it a spot on their Best of the Year list for 2024.

Its battery power outlasted the iPad Pro in PCMag's tests and its vivid 12.4-inch display with a resolution of 2,800 by 1,752 pixels rivals the Apple tablet. Impressive 12GB of RAM, excellent multitasking software, an included S Pen, and an IP68 durability rating round out its features. For Android fans seeking a high-end tablet, the Galaxy Tab S10+ is one of the best — particularly when it's on sale.

As a pet parent, I can confidently say that buying a robot vacuum was one of the smartest things I've ever done. If you’ve been on the fence about getting one, now might be the time to browse — we’re seeing deals across brands, including Ecovacs.

As of June 9, you can get the Ecovacs Deebot X9 Pro Omni robot vacuum and mop for $1,299.99, down from $1,599.99. That's a 19% discount and a $300 savings. We haven't seen it this low before! If you prefer to shop directly with the retailer, they're having a Mid-Year Sale where you can get it for the same price — but act fast, because that sale wraps up today.

SEE ALSO: The best robot vacuum mop combos of 2025 so far, tested on my own tile and hardwood

The Ecovacs Deebot X9 Pro Omni robot vacuum and mop has a 16,600Pa “Blast airflow” suction power (which, according to the manufacturer, is 38 percent more airflow) to get dirt and debris from hard-to-reach places. The ZeroTangle 3.0 tech uses a V-shaped roller brush and anti-tangle side brushes to cut through hair that would otherwise get wrapped around the brush. There’s also a triple-lift system that automatically raises the mop when it goes onto carpets or rugs, lifts the side brushes for bigger messes, and even lifts the main brush to make sure it's not just pushing dirt around. (The Ozmo roller also self-washes while it mops.)

This model comes with a docking station where it can sit for up to 150 days without you needing to do a thing. It auto-refills its water tank, hot washes and dries the mops, and empties the dustbin. All you have to do is refill the clean water tank and empty the dirty one every so often.

Sometimes, top of the line really pays off. In terms of quality to price, a store-brand cola might taste just as good as the more expensive brand name. But there are a few situations in life where the quality of an item really does warrant the added price. Headphones tend to be one of these categories where spending a bit more pays off big time in terms of quality. However, if you shop today's sale, you'll be in for a top-tier product with a top-dollar discount.

As of June 9, the Sony XM5 headphones are on sale at Amazon for $298, marked down from the standard price of $399.99. That puts you in line for a 25% discount that takes $101.99 off the price. Plus, this price extends to several colorways including the standard black but also midnight blue, smokey pink, and silver.

Sony consistently ranks as one of the best headphone brands. They tend to impress in comfort, design, and sound quality and the XM5 headphones meet all of those criteria. But before we get into the details of the Sony XM5 headphones, we should remind you that Sony recently launched the XM6 headphones and we're in love (please act surprised). They come with a major design bonus when it comes to travel which is that they can fold up for easier storage. A potential downside is the XM6 headphones set you back about $450. If you're not in the mood for that price tag, the XM5 headphone are also awesome.

SEE ALSO: Beats Solo 4 headphones are at their lowest-ever price at Amazon

Mashable Deputy Editor Miller Kern reviewed the XM5s in 2022 and awarded them a Mashable Choice. In her review, she wrote, "Sony's WH-1000XM5s are an excellent pair of headphones for first-time buyers and those upgrading from old models." They come with superb noise-cancellation, have a sleek design, and get up to 30 hours of battery life.

In Mashable's roundup of the best noise-cancelling headphones, the Sony XM5s are the top choice for audiophiles. They also appear on Mashable's ranking of the best headphones for flying for those who prioritize sound quality. That could be a great asset during upcoming summer travel.

If you've been eyeing a fresh pair of headphones, today's deal on the Sony XM5s is calling. You'll be saving $100 on a pair that's fantastic in terms of battery life, sound quality, and comfort. Compared to the new Sony XM6, which sell for $448 at Amazon, you'll be saving $150.

The Pickup trailer: Eddie Murphy and Pete Davidson get roped into Keke Palmers heist

Mashable - Mon, 06/09/2025 - 10:00

Eddie Murphy and Pete Davidson are unlikely members of a heist team in Prime Video's upcoming action comedy film The Pickup.

SEE ALSO: Summer Movie Preview: What's coming to theaters and streaming?

Directed by Tim Story (The Blackening, Ride Along), The Pickup focuses on armored truck drivers Russell (Murphy) and Travis (Davidson). The two lead fairly average lives, but both have some romantic developments to be excited about. Russell and his wife (Eva Longoria) are about to celebrate their 25th wedding anniversary, while Travis thinks he's just found the love of his life in Zoe (Keke Palmer), with whom he spent a sultry weekend.

However, both romances are put in serious jeopardy when one of Russell and Travis's routine cash pickups gets ambushed by none other than Zoe herself. Turns out, she's a criminal mastermind hoping to pull off a $60 million heist — but she needs Russell and Travis's help. She'll kill Russell's wife if they don't comply, so Russell and Travis have no choice but to join up.

The trailer above promises a madcap heist comedy, complete with the occasional badassery from Murphy and Davidson. (Palmer, as a hyper-competent criminal, is doing a lot of heavy lifting in the badass department.) The trailer also focuses on the teasing banter between Murphy and Davidson. Could they, along with director Story, recreate the odd pairing chemistry of Ice Cube and Kevin Hart in Ride Along?

The Pickup also stars Ismael Cruz Córdova, Jack Kesy, Andrew Dice Clay, Marshawn Lynch, and Joe “Roman Reigns” Anoa’i.

The Pickup premieres Aug. 6 on Prime Video.

The viral TikTok dog who stole the internets heart is now ready for adoption

Mashable - Mon, 06/09/2025 - 09:31

As the owner of (objectively speaking) the world's greatest dog, I'm never further than a few swipes on TikTok from a good cry. That's because my algorithm is dog-centric and it feeds me both sad — please avoid those — and heartwarming stories about pups.

The latest and greatest such saga is that of Tiki, the viral foster dog who was rescued from pretty dire straits. And you better have your tear ducts ready for his heartwarming tale.

Isabel Klee or @SimonSits on TikTok, who we've previously featured as one of our favorite animal accounts, has told Tiki's touching story on her account. Klee has shown the pretty amazing journey of Tiki from "an extremely fearful, shut-down foster dog" to a pup that will cuddle, trust humans, and be ready for adoption.

Klee has documented the journey day-by-day and it has taken the internet by storm, with videos racking up millions and millions of views. TikTok's own account commented that "watching Tiki's progress every day has been the hopecore content we all needed."

What's made this story especially heartwarming is Klee's honesty about the foster process and the tough road Tiki faced. From Day 1, she was clear with her viewers that Tiki came from an awful situation.

"Tiki didn't have a very good life. We don't know a ton about the first five years of it, but it wasn't very good," she narrates in one video. "Tiki came into the ASPCA with a number of dogs, all of them terrified of the world they've been brought into."

In that video, you can see Tiki, face missing fur, scared, shaking, and seemingly resigned to that life. Klee was even open about the fact that behavioral euthanasia — where a dog is put down because it is unable to recover — could be the potential, most humane outcome. From that darkness, Tiki emerged as a new dog. (Mashable has reached out to Klee for comment and will update this story if we hear back.)

Just look at the little guy now, playing, trusting, and now apparently receiving more than 100 adoption applications in just one hour. This is the same pup that could hardly be around people at all, let alone accept affection.

It is a wonderful story and the kind of heartwarming thing you don't often see on the internet. And people have truly fallen in love with Tiki. And, to Klee's credit, she's used that fact for even more good. In the wake of the virality, she sold "Be Brave Like Tiki" shirts — with all proceeds going to Muddy Paws Rescue — and raised more than $100,000, requiring a full re-stock of the merch.

So, while Klee has obviously done a lot of good for Tiki, now Tiki has done a lot of good for other dogs.

John Oliver gleefully weighs in on the Trump-Musk feud

Mashable - Mon, 06/09/2025 - 06:26

Stephen Colbert and Seth Meyers have both weighed in on the Trump-Musk social media feud that erupted last week, and now it's John Oliver's turn.

Staring Sunday's episode of Last Week Tonight with a recap of the big events from past week, the host quickly landed on the war of words that played out between U.S. president Donald Trump and former DOGE captain Elon Musk on X and TruthSocial on Friday. Oliver ran through it all, from Musk's dissatisfaction with Trump's "big beautiful bill" and ending with Musk dropping the (now deleted) "really big bomb" that Trump is allegedly "in the Epstein files."

"OK, setting aside that Trump being in the Epstein files is not a bombshell, it is a commonly held assumption, they basically spent a full day fighting with big, real housewife energy," said Oliver. "At their core, these two men are Real Housewives: Both of them have hair that's expensive and wrong; both have sketchy business ventures I don't fully understand; they both spend far too much time online; and if either of them isn't the center of attention for a single second, they will die."

The fight between Musk and Trump took place not long after the former left his role running the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), peaking on Thursday when the world's richest man retweeted an X post calling for the president to be impeached.

Things seem to have quietened down a bit since then, with Musk appearing to delete his post about Trump and Epstein.

Blumhouses Grave Seasons trailer reveals a farming sim with a dark twist

Mashable - Mon, 06/09/2025 - 05:30

Horror powerhouse Blumhouse, known for scaring the hell out of us with Paranormal Activity, Insidious, Sinister, and M3GAN, has cannonballed into gaming, giving fans a peek at its upcoming cozy horror game during the Summer Game Fest over the weekend.

Grave Seasons is a farming sim like Stardew Valley, Immortal Life, or Fields of Mistria that comes with a terrifying, murdery twist. While you're sowing your crops and building relationships in the town of Ashenridge, players need to identify the town resident who might be a) a serial killer and b) not quite human — all before another body turns up.

"It's a farming game with supernatural murder," Louise Blain, creative lead at Blumhouse Games, said during a fireside chat at SXSW London last week. "So you get to do all the things that you would do when you're farming, except the people in the town are disappearing horribly."

"Everything that you would do in a normal farming game is there, the economy, everything is there, they won't subvert that, but you don't know where that's going to change," she added. "You don't know where the ground is going to shift under your feet, because something unexpected has happened."

Grave Seasons is coming to PC, PS5, Switch, and Xbox in 2026.

The Lost Bus teaser sees Matthew McConaughey as a driver on a dangerous mission

Mashable - Mon, 06/09/2025 - 05:29

Apple TV+'s The Lost Bus sees Matthew McConaughey back behind the wheel, this time as a school bus driver who answers a call to rescue stranded children during the 2018 Camp Fire, the deadly fire in California's Butte County that resulted in 84 fatalities.

Based on Lizzie Johnson's book Paradise: One Town's Struggle to Survive an American Wildfire, the movie is directed and co-written by Paul Greengrass (Captain Philips) and also stars America Ferrera (Barbie). From the trailer above, it looks like it's going to be a stressful watch.

The Lost Bus is streaming on Apple TV+ "soon".
